Jun 29, · Stuttering is a common speech fluency disorder. Today, between % and 1% of the world’s population stutters. People who stutter include children, adolescents, adults and the elderly. Some begin stuttering since early childhood and stutter well into their senior years. Adult onset fluency disorder is diagnosed when sudden stuttering in adults develops with no organic basis and appears to be psychogenic in origin. The recommended stuttering treatment for adults with this diagnosis is counseling. Stuttering help for adults is warranted if the fluency disorder has an underlying disease or conditions.
